As part of an open day at Callan Park on Sunday 14 September 2014, Tony Griffiths will present a talk on Aboriginal World War 1 veteran Douglas Grant.
Grant was captured at the first battle of Bullecourt and spent two years as a prisoner of war in Germany. As an Aboriginal person, he was of considerable interest to German anthropologists. He was repatriated back to Australia when the war ended. Learn about the Sydney Harbour Bridge war memorial Grant designed for Callan Park, to honour his fallen comrades.
